CSX Evansville Western Railway

CSX Transportation tasked DRMP with designing its 318-acre state-of-the-art Evansville Western Terminal Facility, what would be its largest intermodal and most technically innovative facility to date. DRMP staff had to work around environmental concerns and a challenging deadline.

Advanced and thorough coordination with multiple agencies helped staff keep the project on deadline. DRMP was able to save $2 million in the project’s construction costs by using a forebay stormwater treatment system and other resources, along with reducing the size of the stormwater system. Through coordination, staff mitigated environmental concerns, bald eagles’ nesting schedules and wetlands, through coordination.

DRMP’s cost-effective and innovative design led to the construction of a state-of-the-art facility that includes a crane rail facility to offload and load, additional parking, operations parking and service area. The project was nominated for the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association’s Project of the Year.
