Fred George Basin Greenway & Park

Leon County, Florida residents have long pushed for more recreational spaces for the community to enjoy. The County needed a firm with extensive permitting experience to provide design services to the County’s land development standards for this $9.5 million project.

DRMP provided professional engineering services for the Fred George Basin Greenway & Park. The recreational facility was acquired through Blueprint 2000 and Leon County funding. The 175-acre park is located in northwest Tallahassee, Florida alongside Fred George Road near Capital Circle. The design plans include supporting infrastructure such as landscaping, ADA accessible sidewalks, stormwater management, water and sewer, along with both passive and active recreation. The park includes a baseball field, a multi-purpose field, trails and playground. The stormwater management facility uses a native plant palette and provides habitat areas for wildlife.

The open fields provided a space for Leon County community events. The several miles of trail feature scenic views of various plants and wildlife. The park has supporting amenities such as restrooms, campgrounds and boat landings. The park features aesthetically pleasing retention ponds for stormwater runoff features and a native plant palette that provides a habitat area for wildlife.
