SR 10 (US 90A/Nine Mile Road) Widening

SR 10 (US 90A/Nine Mile Road) Widening is an estimated $16.9 million project located in Escambia County, Florida. Nine Mile Road is one of Pensacola’s highest traveled roadways with an estimated 19,000 drivers daily.  Currently, Nine Mile Road is a mixture of 2-lane and 3-lane segments with paved shoulders. Capacity has become an issue and FDOT District Three has recognized the widening need.

This project includes the design for 4-laning of SR 10 (US 90/Nine Mile Road) from West of Pine Forest Road to SR 95 (US 29) in Escambia County. The widening is part of an overall project to provide 6.5-miles of widening for Nine Mile Road between Beulah Road and US 29. DRMP’s design includes a 4-lane typical section with paved shoulders, sidewalks, raised median as well as major intersection improvements throughout the corridor. The signalized intersections at Pine Forest Road and Fowler Avenue will be upgraded.  Signals will include fiber optic communications and actuated pedestrian features.  Open system drainage improvements will be included in the design along with the associated stormwater ponds to control and treat runoff from the roadway.

Upon completion, Nine Mile Road will provide motorists with a safer roadway that meets the capacity demands of the Pensacola area. The increase in capacity will relieve congestion and decrease travel times for the roadway’s commuters. Improved bike lanes and the addition of sidewalks will increase the safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
