University Drive

University Drive is a design project for FDOT District Four in Coral Springs, Florida. FDOT needs a widening design with lighting and landscaping and that will alleviate congestion on the conversion of the existing rural to urban facility while maintaining traffic during construction. The project requires coordination with Broward County, Florida, the City and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) as well as various other agencies.

The project includes reconstructing, widening, and milling and resurfacing of the existing suburban 4-lane divided arterial on University Drive to a 6-lane divided urban arterial from just south of Cardinal Road/NW 40th Street to the Sawgrass Expressway/SR 869 within the City.  Coordination between DRMP and local agencies will provide a design that is pedestrian/bicycle friendly while maintaining the look and feel of a linear park.  Additional sidewalks, bicycle lanes, bus facilities and lighting will be added to the overall design.

Upon construction, University Drive will provide a sufficient increase in capacity, aesthetic appeal, and pedestrian safety. This capacity increase will meet the daily demand of the area’s drivers and promote a decline in traffic accidents for the area.
