DRMP Charlotte Promotes Darren White, Supporting Team and Leadership Growth
October 2nd, 2025
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – As part of DRMP’s commitment to supporting employee growth and delivering strong client service, Darren White has been promoted to senior traffic design engineer. This promotion recognizes his leadership, technical expertise, and dedication to mentoring new talent.
In this role, White will guide junior engineers and help them navigate various design tasks. He will also train team members on signal testing procedures to create redundancy and ensure they are confident in handling those responsibilities. Additionally, he will develop internal how-to guides and lead Lunch & Learn sessions centered on traffic engineering topics. These efforts are designed to promote team building, improve consistency in design work, and strengthen the quality and efficiency of DRMP’s project delivery.
“We’re excited to see Darren step into this leadership role,” DRMP Traffic Design Group Leader Brittany Groome, PE, PTOE, RSP1, said. “He has demonstrated strong leadership, maintaining continuity during staff transitions, and kept critical work on track, all while turning challenges into opportunities for growth. With his senior-level experience and leadership, Darren is helping us expand our team, providing the guidance and stability needed to bring on and develop new talent. This promotion reflects the trust we have in him to help guide our next phase of growth.”
Earlier this year, White earned his International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level 2 certification, further solidifying his technical knowledge.
He said his promotion represents both a professional milestone and a personal one.
“It reflects the growth I’ve experienced at DRMP and the trust leadership has placed in me,” he said. “It also brings more stability for my family. My wife is in graduate school right now, so this helps us take another step forward. I’m motivated to keep learning and support the team in greater ways. I'm grateful for the mentors and colleagues who have helped me get to this point, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead to take on new challenges and make a larger impact within the company.”
Since joining DRMP, White has worked on traffic signal design, electrical details, communication plans, traffic impact analysis (TIA) reports, traffic calming, signing and delineation, crash analysis, and work zone traffic control.
White said he’s excited to play a larger role in mentoring and project leadership. He’s also focused on advancing his technical skills in signal design and traffic operations with the goal of becoming a key resource for DRMP’s signal design work.
“One challenge we face in North Carolina is the variation in signal design standards across different North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) divisions,” he said. “Each region has its own specifications and design approaches. I want to help develop flexible internal processes and guidelines that accommodate these differences while still promoting efficiency and consistency across our projects.”
He also plans to take a more active lead in signal operations, signal programming, signal testing, and troubleshooting operational issues.
“I want to streamline our internal processes, reduce rework, and help deliver high-quality signal plans that meet client expectations,” White said. “Over the past few years, I’ve learned so much from the people around me, and now I’m looking forward to being someone others can lean on in the same way.”
