DRMP’s Investment in its Geospatial Services Division Boosts Firm’s Capabilities

August 14th, 2023

ORLANDO, Fla.  –  DRMP’s continuous investment in growing its Geospatial Services Division with top-notch experts and the latest cutting-edge technology is yielding new clients and projects.

DRMP’s Brent Bass, PE, SIT, has played a key role in elevating the Market Sector, which has led to the firm promoting him to Geospatial Services Division Manager.  In his new role, Bass will manage the four main service areas of the Geospatial Services Division, which include Mobile LiDAR Systems (MLS), Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Hydrographic Mapping Systems (HMS), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Bass said one of his main goals is to focus on growing the firm’s Geospatial Services locally and regionally to help support DRMP’s partner firms and other DRMP offices in the Southeast.

“My top priority will be to establish group leaders for each of our specialized services,” he said. “This would allow us to better service our clients externally and internally by having those leaders focus on their clients to ensure we deliver high-quality products and great customer service.”

The Division will focus on supporting the rest of the Survey & Mapping/Geospatial staff with project support and the research and development of new technology to keep DRMP at the forefront of the industry.

Bass began his career with DRMP in 2017 after managing multimillion-dollar survey projects working as a professional engineer (PE) for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). He took a strong interest in the survey side of the business and initially started at DRMP as a Survey Project Manager.

Bass’s reputation had preceded him, thanks to a strong endorsement from DRMP President Glenn Lusink, PSM, whom he had crossed paths with a few years earlier while collaborating on an NCDOT project, said Joe Di Benedetto, PLS, DRMP's Senior Vice President/Director of Surveying & Mapping/Geospatial Division.

“In a relatively short span of time, Brent has emerged as a vanguard within this sector,” Di Benedetto said. “His dynamic leadership has brought forth a team of professionals who consistently position DRMP at the forefront of emerging technology.”

Bass recently added a Z-Boat, a ruggedized unmanned surface vehicle (USV) for hydrographic surveys, and an Augmented Reality (AR) sand table, which is used for creating real-time, interactive topography models, to the firm’s equipment fleet. Bass uses the sand table in the community to teach hands-on STEM education to students at local schools and career fairs as part of the Get Kids into Survey global initiative.

Bass’s team also recently completed evaluating the merging of survey data using Mobile LiDAR, Aerial LiDAR, and USV hydrographic data. The team is also preparing guidelines for the new division on how to estimate, collect, and process the data, as well as quality control processes prior to submitting data to the firm’s clients.

“The domain of Mobile LiDAR demands considerable experience, unswerving dedication, and diligent research to effectively compete against other service providers in the industry,” Di Benedetto said. “We need to stay ahead of emerging technologies to be a leader in our profession. Brent's wealth of experience and leadership prowess have undeniably played a pivotal role in catapulting DRMP to the top-tier Mobile LiDAR providers. His initiative-taking involvement with software developers like TopoDOT in refining our final products and enhancing quality control protocols has further substantiated his commitment to excellence.”

Di Benedetto said Bass’s leadership over DRMP’s Geospatial Services Division has resulted in the Division steadily growing and taking on new projects and clients.

Bass said he is excited about the opportunity to expand the firm’s Geospatial Services capabilities.

“I am also very thankful that DRMP’s leadership trusted me with the Mobile LiDAR team and allowed us to grow and expand by supporting staff training and investing in technology,” Bass said. “Joe understands the needs of our company and has encouraged me as a leader to continue to develop myself and balance personal growth along with creating a strong team mentality. He has fully supported my fresh ideas and given me and my staff the chance to prove ourselves.”
