DRMP’s National Intern Day a Game-Changer

July 30th, 2024

National Intern Day, celebrated each year on the last Thursday of July, is a much-anticipated event at DRMP. We take pride in rolling out the red carpet, literally, to welcome our new interns and celebrate the accomplishments of our current interns. This year was no exception.

DRMP’s Learning and Development team prides itself on the memories and experiences it is able to help foster to ensure our interns know the cultural strength as well as the various growth opportunities that are present here at DRMP.

Last year, we treated our interns like Hollywood stars. We held a red-carpet reception and created a Hollywood-style Walk of Fame complete with each intern's name on their own star. We gave them the VIP treatment, and each intern had the opportunity to spend the day with a DRMP executive so they could gain valuable insights and mentorship.

The time spent with our experts provided interns with invaluable insight to not only the industry they are interning for but varying disciplines they aren't regularly exposed to. This allows us to continue to grow our interconnected web of services for our clients.

This year, we introduced an exciting new theme: DRMP Monopoly Intern Edition. Inspired by the classic game of Monopoly, we put our unique transportation and infrastructure spin on it. Instead of buying properties, our interns bid on various projects, simulating the real-life process of project pursuit and bidding.

On National Intern Day last week, we transformed our conference rooms at our multiple offices into a game room with giant Monopoly boards, and each intern was paired with an expert from one of our DRMP departments to form a firm. These experts acted as their "Phone a Friend," similar to the lifeline on the game show, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

Instead of buying properties, teams had to bid on projects based loosely on real DRMP projects. The teams needed to read over a project’s description and decide if they were going to take the project on. This meant having enough employees to complete the project and assess the risk level of the project based on completion time.

Our DRMP experts shared their knowledge to help interns strategize which projects to take, with projects being paid in Monopoly money upon completion. This interactive team-building activity provided our interns with an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the variety of work conducted at DRMP while promoting A/E/C industry knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

The day began with a continental breakfast for our interns, experts, and staff to set the tone for a day of fun and learning. We had 22 interns participate in the event, each eager to engage and learn from our seasoned professionals.

At DRMP, we believe in providing our interns with memorable and enriching experiences. Celebrating National Intern Day in such creative and engaging ways is just one of the many ways we show our appreciation for their hard work and commitment. We look forward to continuing this tradition and finding new ways to inspire and celebrate our future A/E/C industry professionals.
