Taxiway A Extension and Seaplane Ramp Environmental Permitting at Leesburg International Airport

The increase in seaplane air traffic in Lake County, Florida spurred the need for a seaplane ramp and base facility in the region. The City of Leesburg’s response was to extend Taxiway A and construct a seaplane ramp on Lake Harris at Leesburg International Airport.  DRMP provided environmental services for a team of consultants to design, permit and construct the Taxiway A extension and seaplane ramp.

DRMP prepared the environmental resource permitting applications and supporting documentation to extend Taxiway A to the southeast, install a seaplane ramp from Lake Harris to the Taxiway A extension and construct a floating dock to support seaplane activity.  To offset the wetland impacts anticipated with this project, DRMP assisted the City with the approvals from regulatory agencies for an off-site wetland mitigation area. This mitigation strategy saved the City approximately $300,000.

DRMP performed the needed service under the Leesburg International Airport Planning and Engineering Continuing Service Contract. The new additions will further support and increase the seaplane activity in the region and open opportunity for more growth in the future.
