Charlotte Walkability Sidewalk Improvements

In a 2015 ranking by Walk Score®, Charlotte ranked 105th in walkability out of 108 U.S. cities with populations over 200,000. To support the City's initiative to provide a safe, comfortable, connected pedestrian system, the City hired DRMP.

DRMP has provided on-call services for multiple sidewalk projects from planning and design to completed construction.  Individual task orders have included projects along thoroughfare and non-thoroughfare corridors that have required intersection improvements, major culvert replacement, traffic calming, minor bridge and retaining wall design, PROWAG/ADA upgrades, railroad coordination, public involvement, utility coordination and adjustments, estimation of probable construction costs, exhibits for easement acquisition and traffic control. We have improved walkability in the following areas:

  • Mallard Creek Road
  • Hubbard Road
  • Tuckaseegee Road
  • Old Steele Creek/Tyvola Road
  • South Turner Avenue
  • East Ford Road
  • Chiswick Road
  • Kilborne Drive
  • North Sharon Amity Road Sidewalk
  • Mallard Creek Church Road Shared-Use Path

A robust pedestrian network improves neighborhoods and quality of life for the citizens of Charlotte. The added sidewalks will attract more people to live, work and play in the City of Charlotte.
