Orlando, Fla. – DRMP is pleased to announce that two DRMP projects have been presented with 2021 Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC-FL). Vice Presidents Colette Moss, PE, and Amanda Woods, PE, accepted the awards at the ACEC-FL conference on August 6 in Palm Beach, Fla.
The firm’s SR 528 (Beachline) Widening Project was a winner of the Grand Award. DRMP provided roadway design services to widen SR 528 (Beachline) from I-4 to McCoy Road in Central Florida to accommodate the need for increased traffic capacity for both commuters and tourists. This project plays a large role in connecting the Orlando International Airport to the I-4 corridor.
DRMP’s Schoolwide Mobile Wi-Fi Distribution Project was a winner of the Honor Award. The firm provided Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services to help Alachua County students adjust to online learning amongst the COVID-19 pandemic when students did not return to in-person classes in 2020. This was especially a challenge for students with little to no Internet access. The school district had the capability to outfit a number of their school buses to serve as Wi-Fi hot spots around the county and using various data sources, DRMP helped the district decide on almost 50 final sites that optimized the number of students that could use them conveniently.
