Just like many graduates around the country, DRMP’s college interns did not get to make that walk across the stage to celebrate the end of their college careers. So, we made it our responsibility to show appreciation for our interns in a congratulations video.
Each year, DRMP is excited to hire college interns to not only help them gain real-world experience in the industry but to give them guidance and expose them to the range of services the firm provides. In turn, our interns give us new insight and ideas that help contribute to our successes.
Below are some of our Class of 2020 interns highlighting the benefits of their DRMP internships.
Joshua Carter, a transportation intern in our Boca Raton, Fla. office, said that he is grateful to be able to get hands-on project experience. “For one roadway design project, I analyzed and coordinated adjustments/relocations of all utilities found to be in conflict with the proposed roadway design, a vital skill, and process I learned working in the field. It proved to be very useful moving into other projects,” said Joshua. He will be continuing with DRMP as a Project Engineer with the goal of obtaining his Florida Engineering Intern license in the near future.
DRMP ensures that our interns are a part of the team by valuing their ideas and getting to know them well. The reciprocal support and respect between college interns and seasoned staff is something we are proud of. “What I have enjoyed the most about my internship is the respect and care I have received from my co-workers. Any time I need help or guidance on anything, all I have to do is ask and they will help me to the best of their ability. I truly appreciate the way I have been treated here at DRMP from the very beginning,” said Elliott Tegan-Tawney, a transportation intern in our Tampa, Fla. office. Elliott plans to continue growing his skills with DRMP to reach his goal of becoming a better engineer.
Drew McCullough, a general civil intern in our Gainesville, Fla. office also felt supported. “I have most enjoyed the feeling of fitting in here at DRMP. All of the employees here are kind and as an intern, they understand I have a lot to learn, and they will help me improve in any way they can,” said Drew. He plans to stay in Gainesville, Fla. and become a licensed Professional Engineer.
Giving our interns exposure to a variety of our services is important, as it helps them find their passion and understand other disciplines. Each team member at DRMP contributes to the overall goal in their own way. Tia Lilliman, a transportation engineer in our Panama City, Fla. office has enjoyed watching each person’s work come together like a puzzle. “From meeting people in several different offices and departments during my internship at DRMP, I mostly enjoyed learning about the wide variety of roles served throughout the company. Each person handles unique responsibilities contributing to the overall success of DRMP,” Tia said. She plans to implement and practice her knowledge into her daily business at DRMP with the goal of becoming a licensed Professional Engineer as soon as possible.
We want to thank our college interns for their invaluable work and contribution to the success of DRMP. It’s not easy to balance an internship and going to school full-time. DRMP is proud of your hard work and we celebrate all you have accomplished.
