SR 50 Widening and Improvements CEI Services (CEI Group 104) Projects

This grouping of projects involved providing Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) services for the widening from 4-lanes to 6-lanes of two different 3-mile sections of SR 50 from Good Homes Road to Pine Hills Road in Orlando, and from West of Hancock Road to Remington Road in Clermont and Oakland. Each project brought its own set of challenges, which included one project lying within a heavily traveled urban corridor with minimum right-of-way and heavy utilities, including three separate Utility Work by Highway Contractor (UWHC) agreements. The other project was a heavily traveled rural project with many hills and walls and heavy utility involvement. Bonuses and incentives/disincentives were involved on both projects, which made the work fast-paced and all decisions critical.

DRMP worked to encourage open communications among all parties, which helped in the overall success on both projects.  Coordination was key; as many as 15 to 20 different entities on each project were involved in bringing the projects to completion. Our staff looked ahead and prevented any problems before they occurred.  The open communication helped all parties address challenges before becoming insurmountable.

The CEI services assured the FDOT that the project was completed in accordance with plans and specifications. The SR 50 improvements benefit the community by improving access through these corridors and helping relieve congestion along SR 50 in Clermont, Oakland and West Orlando.  Both projects were completed on time and within budget.
