ORLANDO, Fla. – DRMP has promoted Mark Brown, GISP, to geographic information system (GIS) group leader, and Bryant King, CST I, to mobile LiDAR group leader within its Geospatial Services Division. These promotions support DRMP’s ongoing commitment to employee development and expanding its geospatial capabilities.
The Geospatial Services Division at DRMP includes GIS, mobile LiDAR services (MLS), unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and hydrographic mapping systems (HMS), providing spatial data solutions that support the firm’s engineering, planning, ecological, and survey disciplines.
“Mark and Bryant have consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and technical expertise in their respective areas, making them clear choices to lead the GIS and mobile LiDAR groups,” DRMP Geospatial Services Division Manager Brent Bass, PE, PSM, said. “Their commitment to innovation and collaboration has greatly enhanced our geospatial services, and we’re excited to see them continue advancing our capabilities and delivering value to our clients in their expanded roles.”
Brown to Guide Evolution of DRMP’s GIS Practice
Brown has advanced from GIS project manager to GIS group leader, overseeing growth and operations of DRMP’s GIS team with a focus on the firm’s Transportation Market Sector. Since joining DRMP in 2017, Brown has leveraged his prior decade of GIS experience in the defense industry to lead innovative projects, such as a school locator and growth management apps for Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa – one of the largest school districts in the country. The school locator has been accessed more than 300,000 times since launching.
“This promotion is a vote of confidence from our leadership team in my performance on projects over the years,” Brown said. “It also gives me a greater opportunity to contribute to the direction and success of our Geospatial Services Division and the GIS solutions we offer.”
When Brown joined DRMP, it marked his first experience providing GIS services and solutions in the A/E/C industry. His move from the defense industry to the A/E/C sector introduced him to new clients and project types, sparking a period of growth as he explored the diverse GIS applications used to support DRMP’s federal, municipal, and higher education projects.
“As my career at DRMP has grown, our GIS team has increasingly integrated with our Survey Department, creating a natural alignment for the products and services we provide to clients,” Brown said. “I consider my experiences and growth at DRMP to be a monumental step in my career as a GIS professional.”
Over the past 10-15 years, the GIS industry has evolved from a novelty service to a mission-critical element in sectors such as government, public works, planning, transportation, and emergency management, Brown said.
“We anticipate that GIS services at DRMP will continue to evolve, developing more tailored products and solutions for our clients while significantly contributing to the firm’s mission to make a difference in the transportation and infrastructure sectors,” he said.
King to Direct Mobile LiDAR Operations at DRMP
King has progressed from project manager to mobile LiDAR group leader, overseeing all aspects of mobile LiDAR project delivery at DRMP. In this leadership role, King manages estimating, mission planning, data collection, processing, and final project deliverables for clients including the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
“Every phase of the process is critical, and I (and my team) ensure each step is executed with accuracy and attention to detail to meet both technical and regulatory standards,” he said.
King joined DRMP in 2014 as a rodman on a survey crew and steadily advanced by taking on new responsibilities and participating in the firm’s training opportunities. One formative moment early in his career came when he volunteered for an overnight terrestrial scan at the US 17/92 and SR 436 flyover bridge in Central Florida.
“I jumped at the opportunity, not just for the overtime, but to get hands-on experience with the latest technology,” he said. “After spending that night in the field and the following day in the office processing the data, I realized that laser scanning was the direction I wanted to pursue at DRMP. That experience was a turning point in my career and set the foundation for the professional growth I’ve achieved here since.”
King views his promotion as both recognition of past efforts and motivation to continue advancing the group’s capabilities.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to know that leadership recognizes that effort and trusts me to take the reins,” he said. “Being entrusted with this responsibility not only validates my growth but also motivates me to continue pushing our team and technology forward.”
Recent technology investments have also played a role in expanding the team’s capabilities. Last year, DRMP added a second mobile LiDAR vehicle to its fleet, improving both efficiency and resiliency.
“This addition has significantly improved our operational efficiency, allowing us to cover a larger geographic area with faster response times,” King said. “The new system also includes several technology upgrades, enabling us to deliver higher-quality data when project requirements demand it. Just as importantly, it provides us with a reliable backup. While we always plan to avoid downtime, advanced equipment like this occasionally requires maintenance. Having a second system ensures we can perform necessary upkeep without disrupting project schedules or deliverables.”
King attributes much of the team’s success to the people behind the work. What began as a two-person group has grown into a well-rounded and capable team.
“I’d like to highlight the incredible team we have within the Geospatial Services Division,” he said. “Over the past seven years, we’ve grown from just two people to a team in the double digits. That growth is a direct result of the support, mentorship, and vision provided by Brent Bass, Joe Di Benedetto (DRMP’s senior vice president and director of surveying and mapping/geospatial services division), and the whole DRMP leadership. Their guidance has empowered us to evolve, innovate, and establish ourselves as a strong presence in the market.”
